Bernie Traurig Clinic Photos

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves while learning, even the horses. A few were used for flat work demonstrations with Bernie aboard. Their riders then took over to finish the flat work using what they had just watched. By the third day, the routine was established, riders warmed up with the exercises Bernie had used the the previous two days while under his watchful eye. Very few corrections were made on day three, just subtle reminders.

Then the test, a course, complete with a simulated open type water, a Liverpool, a tight one stride, and varying distances some being a little trappy but nothing one wouldn't see in the ring. The clear rounds did a jump off. There were some very fast jump off rounds, applying techniques learned the previous two days. The hunters didn't jump off but did ride the same course, as it was a test in being able to adjust stride, make changes to a track and affect the distance, and use the options available while being smooth and accurate. Helpful for those handy hunter classes that are making a comeback.

Throughout the three days Bernie was amusing, thoughtful, concise, provided excellent instruction and some great stories from "back in the day". He made himself available during the lunch break for questions and discussion with the auditors and riders. It was a real treat to see Bernie ride again, he is a master at getting a horse to become loose and supple with a quiet, thoughtful ride. There was some brilliant riding by the participants on the third day. Lessons learned well and applied.
